The things people ask us most often before a build gets started.
What areas do you build in?
We work out of Charing Cross and build across Chatham-Kent — Chatham, Blenheim, Ridgetown, Tilbury, Wallaceburg, Dresden and the surrounding communities. We take work further into Southwestern Ontario when the size of the build warrants the drive.
Do you pour the concrete yourself?
No. Concrete is poured by subtrades we work with regularly rather than by our own crew. We schedule that work around the build so the pad is ready when the frame and materials arrive, which means you are not lining up a separate contractor and hoping the dates match.
Do you handle the building permit?
Yes. We put together permit-ready drawings and submit them to the Chatham-Kent building department as part of the build, and we arrange engineered drawings and stamped truss packages where the project requires them.
What is the difference between post-frame and steel?
Post-frame uses laminated posts set below frost with engineered wood trusses, and generally gives the widest clear span for the money on agricultural and shop buildings. Steel-frame uses red-iron or light-gauge columns with bolted connections and Z-purlins, and tends to suit larger commercial footprints. We build both and will tell you which one fits what you are trying to do.
How wide can you go without posts in the middle?
Clear spans to 80 ft with no interior posts. Beyond the span itself, eave height and door sizes usually matter more to how the building works day to day, so those are worth settling early.
What do you need from me to put a quote together?
Width, length, eave height and what is going through the doors is enough to start. If you do not know those yet, tell us what the building is for and we will work it out on the site visit.
What does a building cost?
It depends on the span, the height, the doors, the finishes and what the site needs before anything goes up, so there is no honest single number. What we can say is that the quote comes to you in writing and itemized, with dimensions and spec beside the price, so you can put it next to anybody else’s and see exactly where the difference is.
